我覺得作者用幾個不同的重點貫穿整本書，都是為了創造一個充滿活力和懸疑的情節。故事中的雙胞胎(Josh and Sophie)，他們努力磨練自己的法師技能和儘可能的學習所有他們可以學習的法術的過程；書的內容包含了魔術，歷史，神話，聰明的人物，邪惡陰謀，和強烈的親情，有人認為這本書可以媲美哈利波特。
